HELIX: Behind-The-Scenes Footage From New Video Shoot Posted Online
January 17, 2010Canadian hard rock veterans HELIX filmed two new videos — "Monday Morning Meltdown" and "Make 'Em Dance" — last weekend in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. Guitarist Brent Doerner enlisted the help of the Conestoga College video department and director Francis Coral Mellon for the shoot, which marked the first time the band had filmed a video together since 1989's "Dream On".
Commented singer Brian Vollmer: "Unlike the '80s, where there was an obscene amount of money spent on videos, nowadays a lot of artists are getting exposure through homemade films launched on YouTube. . . So you have to use your brains instead of your wallet to get a good product.
"The back of the new [HELIX] CD ['Vagabond Bones'] has a skeleton on it, so we used that theme a little bit in these two videos.
"I bought a life-sized skeleton at a costume shop (along with renting a prisoner's uniform for 'Monday Morning Meltdown') which we named Jimmy Bones. He appears in the jail scene and in 'Make 'Em Dance' he’s simply sitting by the bass drum. A happy accident was when we used experimental lights in 'Monday Morning Meltdown' and they turned out looking like the bars on a cell."
Behind-the-scenes footage from last weekend's video shoot can be viewed below.
HELIX is aiming to release release "Make 'Em Dance" to Canadian radio by DMDS (Digital Media Distribution System) at the end of January.
"Vagabond Bones" was released in Canada via Universal/Fontana and in the U.S. through Perris Records. Vollmer collaborated with Sean Kelly (CRASH KELLY) on material for the CD, which was mixed by engineer Aaron Murray.
